U.S. Seeks Generator Repair at 558-MW Bonneville Second by Staff Hydro Review, May 11, 2009

The Corps of Engineers seeks bids to repair a generator in the 558-MW Second Powerhouse at the 1,076.6-MW Bonneville Dam project, on the Columbia River in Oregon. Bids are due July 8, 2009.

The Corps previously issued a notice in which it identified a tentative due date of May 8. (HydroWorld 4/6/09)

Work will involve Unit 11, a 70-megavolt-ampere, 18.8-kilovolt, 69.23-rpm generator with a rotor diameter of about 37 feet and a rotor height of 56 inches. The unit is one of 20 generators at the Bonneville Dam hydroelectric project.

The contractor is to move the generator stator so that it is round, plumb, and properly aligned to the turbine shaft; test and repair stator laminations; shrink the rotor rim onto rotor spider arms; and inspect and repair the unit's upper guide bearing and associated vapor ring.

The Corps says it intends to award a firm fixed-price contract. It estimates the value of the work will range from $500,000 to $1 million.
