Untruths About Dams

by Les Wigen
Lewiston Tribune, March 20, 2005

Bruce Babbitt is a spokesman for environmentalists (Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition) who stopped forest and mining industries. He's now working to stop the agriculture industry by going after our Snake River dams.

The facts speak for themselves. There have been record runs of salmon and steelhead since 1938 when the first Columbia River dam was built! The Corps of Engineers in Walla Walla have these facts! Tell the truth, Mr. Babbitt, if you're going to speak about our Snake River dams and salmon. When the worst drought in the making is upon the Pacific Northwest, Bruce Babbitt needs to wake up and talk to the orchard, wheat, barley, pea and lentil farmers and all farmers in the Columbia Basin!

Currently, Washington state is sitting at 26 percent of its normal average precipitation! This will hurt farmers, hydropower, wildlife, irrigation, transportation and fish -- yes, even fish on the greatest asset west of the Mississippi River! Mr. Babbitt should tell the truth about our Snake River dams! I challenge Bruce Babbitt to a debate about our Snake River dams in Spokane, Lewiston, Clarkston or on top of Lower Granite Dam any time he wants to debate this issue! Save our dams!
