Annual Lock Closure on Columbia-
Snake Rivers Starts Saturday

by Staff
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, March 4, 2016

(Army Corps of Engineers) Workers walk near the The Dalles downstream gate during last year's outage. The lock will be closed from Dec. 10 to March 18 to replace the two downstream miter gates. The annual closure of navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday.

The closure is to allow inspections, maintenance and repairs to the locks, which are on dams operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The locks at Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day dams on the Columbia River are scheduled to reopen on March 20. Locks at McNary Dam on the Columbia River and at Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite on the Snake River will reopen March 27 due to non-routine work which requires more time to complete.

The public vehicle crossing at Lower Monumental Dam will be closed between Sunday and March 27 due to work activities. The vehicle crossing at Little Goose Dam may have temporary closures due to work activities. Travelers are asked to call (509) 399-2233, ext. 227, well in advance of arrival to determine crossing opportunities.
