Anders to Replace Measure as
Montana Member on Power Council

Jennifer Anders will replace Bruce Measure on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, effective March 4, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock announced Feb. 5. It was the second time in two weeks that Bullock named a member to the council -- Pat Smith was appointed last month to fill the seat Rhonda Whiting vacated at the -- end of 2012.

Anders has served as an assistant attorney general for the state since 1989. She has handled a wide range of civil and criminal cases at all levels of litigation, including at the U.S. Supreme Court, a release from the governor's office said. She successfully defended Montana's water quality standards in state court against challenges by coalbed methane producers, and was a member of the litigation team in Montana's case against Wyoming over enforcement of the Yellowstone Water Compact.

Bullock, who was Montana's Attorney General before his election as governor, praised Anders' abilities, which he saw firsthand "I worked side-by-side with Jennifer on complex issues ranging from water rights to resource management," Bullock said. "She is not only a talented lawyer, but she is also skilled at balancing complex and often competing demands.

"With Jennifer joining Pat Smith on the Council," Bullock continued, "Montana will have a strong team working to make sure that our interests are represented and respected."

The departure of long-time member Measure, who was elected vice-chair last month, means the council will hold a new election to fill that post, perhaps as soon as March, council spokesman John Harrison told NW Fishletter.
