Annual Snake and Columbia
Lock Closures Start Friday

by Staff
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, March 4, 2010

Maintenance work will put most of the passages on ice for about two weeks.

WALLA WALLA -- Maintenance work will close navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake River dams starting Friday.

Navigation locks at the dams, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be undergoing annual inspections and repairs. The closures are coordinated with inland shippers and cruise lines to minimize impact to the various industries that use the navigation locks.

Navigation locks on the Bonneville, The Dalles, John Day and McNary dams on the Columbia River will reopen on March 21. The navigation locks at Little Goose and Lower Granite dams on the Snake River will reopen on the same day.
