ILWU Goes Back to Work
at Port of Portland's Terminal 6

by Conrad Wilson
Oregon Public Broadcasting, February 10, 2015

Port of Portland's Terminal 6 was shut down over the weekend, and port officials are preparing a contingency plan in case of a lockout or strike as labor negotiations continue. (Beth Nakamura photo) Officials at the Port of Portland said workers with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union started offloading the ship at Terminal 6 Tuesday.

On Monday, activities at many West Coast ports resumed following a shutdown by employers over the weekend.

But at the Port of Portland, union workers had refused to go back to work.

Josh Thomas, a spokesman for the Port of Portland, said there was a container vessel docked at the Port, waiting to be serviced.

Craig Merrilees, a spokesman for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, said there was no connection between the ILWU's grievance in Portland and the weekend shutdown.
