Boaters Can Use Locks

by Staff
The News Tribune, September 18, 2010

Recreational boaters will be able to use the locks at McNary Dam on the Columbia River and four lower Snake River dams as needed this winter.

The Army Corps of Engineers has changed the lock scheduling policy to an "on-request" for daylight hours use.

This change occurs seasonally to accommodate changing volumes of river traffic.

Commercial vessels will have precedence over recreational vessels for using the locks, but reduced commercial river traffic during the winter will allow recreational vessels to go through the locks almost any time during daylight hours, Corps' Walla Walla officials said.
