Clean Energy: Harvest Nature's Bounty

by Michael Haney
The Oregonian, June 1, 2007

I would like to applaud the Oregon Legislature for passing the Renewable Energy Standard, Senate Bill 838 ("Clean-energy bill sails through Oregon House," May 24).

With the slew of energy problems that we're facing in this country, including our dependence on fossil fuels, the Iraq war and global warming, this is a great step for energy independence in our state.

Now, instead of importing a bunch of coal and natural gas, we can take advantage of our home-grown renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, and help create jobs for Oregonians.

The 22 other states that have renewable standards have seen substantial economic impacts as well as a cleaner environment. And this is the single biggest step that Oregon can take to address global warming. It's the biggest victory for Oregon's environment in years!
