U.S. Seeks Bypass Relocation at

Lower Monumental Dam WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to relocate juvenile fish bypass outfall pipes at 810-MW Lower Monumental and 980-MW McNary dams.

Bids in separate solicitations are due Aug. 9 and Aug. 31. A site visit is scheduled at Lower Monumental on July 21.

The Corps' Walla Walla District previously said it expected to take bids in July to relocate the outfall pipe at McNary on the Columbia River in Oregon. The district sought information in November on firms to perform cavitation and linkage repair on Unit 1 of Lower Monumental on the Snake River in Washington.

The latest work is proposed to improve survival of bypassed fish returned to the river by relocating the juvenile bypass outfall pipes to a location with improved hydraulic conditions, reducing predation opportunity.

The district proposes relocating the bypass outfall at Lower Monumental by connecting a pipe to the existing bypass system line and extending about 2,100 feet downstream and 500 feet into the river. The work is valued at between $5 million and $10 million.

It plans to relocate the bypass outfall at McNary from its current location about 250 feet downstream from the dam in front of the powerhouse to a new location about 1,100 feet downstream from the dam and 1,200 feet away from the bank out into the river. The work is valued at between $10 million and $25 million.

A solicitation notice for the Lower Monumental work may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF11R0024 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. A site visit is planned July 21 and bids are due Aug. 9. For information, contact Jani C. Long, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, CENWW-CT, 201 N. 3rd Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7209.

A solicitation notice for the McNary work may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF11R0016 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. Bids are due Aug. 31. For information, contact Phyllis L. Buerstatte, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, CENWW-CT, 201 N. 3rd Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7211.
