U.S. Seeks Gate Cable Installation at 603-MW Ice Harbor by Pennwell HydroWorld, October 6, 2011

WALLA WALLA, Wash., U.S. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids for replacement of navigation lock downstream gate cables at the 603-MW Ice Harbor hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington. Bids are due Nov. 29.

The Corps' Walla Walla District previously said it expected to issue the solicitation in October. The Corps took bids Oct. 28 for low-voltage and DC systems upgrades at Ice Harbor.

The Corps now seeks bids for installation of government-furnished components for a cable connection to the downstream navigation lock gate and counterweight. The gate is a guillotine type attached to 350-ton counterweights on either side of the lock. Removal and installation of wire ropes and attachment assemblies will require the contractor to supply equipment for a combination of shimming and jacking to the counterweight and gate.

The work is expected to take 18 days at a cost of between $500,000 and $1 million.
