Lower Granite Lock Reopens
After Gate Cables Replaced

by Staff
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, June 24, 2011

POMEROY -- Lower Granite Dam's navigation lock service has reopened to recreational vessels.

The lock was closed Monday after a routine inspection of the gate revealed the gate cables were damaged and needed to be replaced.

The navigation lock at Lower Monumental Dam near Kahlotus remains closed to recreational vessels due to loose concrete on a section of the lock wall undergoing repairs.

Commercial vessels are being permitted to go through, but some delays are possible.

Both dams are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District office.
