Chinook Closed Above Bonneville

by Roy Gault & Henry Miller
Statesman Journal, July 1, 2008

Fishing for summer Chinook salmon has been closed on the Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upriver to the Highway 395 Bridge near Pasco, Wash.

The season had been scheduled to run through the end of the month, but high angler numbers and success rates exhausted the allowed total catch, according to officials with the Oregon and Washington departments of Fish and Wildlife.

You still can catch and keep Chinook jacks on the Columbia. Jacks are young salmon that return before they are sexually mature.

And you also can catch and keep sockeye salmon through July 6 in the Columbia from the mouth to the the Highway 395 Bridge.
