Coast Guard Closes Columbia River
and Tillamook Bay River Bars

by Staff
KATU, March 11, 2010

OREGON COAST - Hazardous conditions at the coast have forced the Coast Guard to close the Columbia River and Tillamook Bay river bars.

That means all vessels will be barred from navigating the river bars until the Coast Guard re-evaluates the conditions and reopens the waterways.

Mariners are advised to contact the Coast Guard on VHF-FM Channel 16 for further information or to request crossing. Any request to transit the bars prior to re-opening must be approved by the Captain of the Port in Portland.

This week's stormy weather is likely to break Friday and Saturday, according to KATU Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby.
