Salmon Fishing to Close on
Three Stretches of Idaho Rivers

LEWISTON, Idaho - Salmon fishing on the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River, the Snake River in Hells Canyon and the Lower Salmon River closes Sunday evening.

On the Clearwater, Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials say anglers are close to catching the state's share.

On the Snake River in Hells Canyon, fishermen have caught and released an unusually high number of wild chinook.

And the Lower Salmon River is shutting down because anglers there have been catching so many fish.

Last weekend, anglers caught 1,700 chinook from the Lower Salmon River between Hammer Creek and the mouth of the Little Salmon River, with some biologists calling it "off-the-charts good fishing."

Salmon returning to Idaho are divided between hatcheries, sport anglers and tribal fishermen.
