by Mike Perrault
The Desert Sun, July 31, 2010

Southern California Edison announced today it awarded 36 contracts to independent power producers for solar projects, including several in the Coachella Valley, Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms.

Solar Power Inc. based in Roseville, will build two projects in Palm Springs, SoCal Edison officials said.

Woodland Hills-based SEPV 2 LLC will build a solar project in Twentynine Palms, and Cascade Solar LLC of San Juan Capistrano will build a project in Joshua Tree.

All of the projects are estimated to come on line next year.

Nearly 60 megawatts from photovoltaic solar panels will produce emission-free energy for SoCal Edison's customers through the 36 projects, company officials said.

The panels will be installed on 31 unused rooftops and five ground-mount sites.
