Conservation easement preserves historic Ellis Ranch on Salmon River near Challis, Idaho. CUSTER COUNTY, Id. -- The Wood River Land Trust is announcing a new conservation easement.

Nearly 500 acres of land along the Salmon River is now preserved for farming, ranching, and fish and wildlife habitat.

The Ellis Ranch in Custer County covers nearly two miles of river frontage and offers several public access points for fishing and hunting.

"As the rest of the world changes so dramatically and so quickly, this is just as it was 100 years ago when this property was settled by the original Ellis family in Ellis. So to keep it like that for the future to enjoy but also today is what's important," said Scott Boettger, Executive Director of the Wood River Land Trust.

The Wood River Land Trust says the property will continue to serve as a working cattle ranch.
