Spring Chinook Season
Ends Sunday

by Staff
Lewiston Tribune, July 12, 2017

Last week, fisheries managers estimated only two adult chinook were caught.

Spring Chinook fishing in the Northwest is popular either from a boat or from the bank. Let's go fishing. The summer sun is setting on spring chinook fishing in Idaho but anglers have the rest of the week to land the big fish.

Both the Snake River in Hells Canyon and the Little Salmon River near Riggins will close for the season Sunday night. According to a fishing update from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, participation in both fisheries has dwindled to just a handful of anglers. Last week, fisheries managers estimated only two adult chinook were caught.

"We still have some harvest share, but nobody is fishing," said Joe DuPont, regional fisheries manager for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game at Lewiston.

He said by agreement with federal fisheries managers the season is closed in early August and a seasonal lease agreement with a landowner that provides access to prime fishing spots along part of the Little Salmon River closes at the end of this month.
