F&G Closes Rivers to Salmon Fishing by Staff The Idaho Statesman, June 15, 2005

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game announced Tuesday it is closing the Clearwater, North Fork of the Clearwater and main Salmon River to spring salmon fishing, effective immediately.

Fishing will remain open on the South Fork Clearwater, the Lochsa River and the Little Salmon River for at least one more four-day period starting Friday and lasting through Monday.

Anglers can also continue fishing the Snake River from Dug Bar Boat Ramp upstream to Hells Canyon Dam until the scheduled closure on Sunday.

The summer chinook season on the South Fork of the Salmon River opens Friday.

Good fishing last week on the Clearwater and Salmon rivers meant that anglers caught the sport fishing share of the harvest of spring chinook.

Anglers caught about 90 percent of the state's share of surplus hatchery chinook in the Clearwater River system, F&G reported.

Anglers fishing the mainstem Salmon and Little Salmon rivers caught about 80 percent of the state's share of surplus hatchery fish.

Fish and Game will continue to monitor salmon harvest where seasons remain open and will provide updates on the Web and through the media on closures as they happen.

Anglers fishing any river for chinook salmon are limited to one fish per day, three fish in possession, and a season total of 10 fish. A complete list of the rules for salmon fishing in Idaho is available online at fishandgame.idaho.gov./fish.
