Fishing Report for May 9 by Staff The Columbian, May 9, 2013

Angling is closed for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River from the Buoy 10 line upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.

Sturgeon angling is improving in the lower Columbia as the population migrates from the Willamette down to the estuary.

The estuary sturgeon season reopens Saturday between the Wauna power lines and Buoy 10.

Walleye angling is fair in the The Dalles and John Day pools.

Reports from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) for salmon, steelhead and shad:

Bonneville Pool -- Salmonid angling closed. Weekly checking showed no catch for six bank anglers.

The Dalles Pool -- Salmonid angling closed. Weekly checking showed 19 adipose fin-clipped spring chinook kept, plus six unclipped spring chinook released for 171 bank anglers; and six adipose fin-clipped spring chinook kept, plus four unclipped spring chinook released for 12 boats (22 anglers).

John Day Pool (Columbia River above John Day Dam and John Day Arm) -- Salmonid angling closed. Weekly checking showed three adipose fin-clipped spring chinook kept, plus four unclipped spring chinook released for 35 bank anglers; and six adipose fin-clipped spring chinook kept, plus five unclipped spring chinook released for 32 boats (67 anglers).
