Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River -- On the Lower Cowlitz, 33 bank anglers kept 1 adult and 2 jack spring chinook and 3 summer steelhead; and seven boat anglers kept 1 adult and 2 jack spring chinook.

During four days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator, last week Tacoma Power recovered:

42 winter-run steelhead, 763 spring chinook salmon, 217 jacks and 9 summer steelhead.

During the past week Tacoma Power employees released:

626 spring chinook and 1,865 jacks and four winter steelhead into Lake Scanewa above Cowlitz Falls Dam.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 3,050 cubic feet per second on Monday, June 1. Water visibility is 14 feet.

Klickitat River -- 1 bank angler had no catch.

Lower Columbia mainstem below Bonneville Dam -- Last week we sampled 800 salmon anglers (including 159 boats) with 64 adult and 7 jack spring chinook and 10 steelhead. 42 (66%) of the adult chinook were kept. We sampled 38 (90%) of the adult chinook kept. 32 (84%) of the adult chinook were upriver origin based on VSI.

9 (90%) of the steelhead were kept. We sampled all of the fish kept; we did not recover any tags.

John Day Pool -- Boat anglers are catching some spring Chinook.

Bonneville Dam passage through May 31 totals 220,480 adult Chinook. The U.S. v. Oregon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has provided an in-season run update of 271,000 adult fish to the Columbia River. The preseason forecast was 232,500.
