COLUMBIA FISHING REPORT

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

• Angling for spring Chinook and summer steelhead is open between Tongue Point and Bonneville Dam.
• Angling for spring Chinook and summer steelhead is open from Tower Island powerlines upstream to the Oregon/Washington border above McNary Dam, plus the banks between Bonneville and Tower Island powerlines.
• Shad angling is open from Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam.
• White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to McNary Dam, but remains an option for catch and release fishing. Anglers are reminded that spawning sanctuaries take effect May 1 (see special regulations for details).
• Walleye fishing was excellent in the John Day Pool last week.

Salmonid angling was fair to good on the lower Columbia this past weekend, and the shad angling is improving. In the gorge, boat anglers averaged 0.5 spring Chinook caught per boat, while anglers fishing in Troutdale averaged 0.17 spring Chinook caught per boat. In the Portland to Westport area, boat anglers averaged 0.37 spring Chinook and 0.16 steelhead caught per boat. In the estuary, boat anglers averaged 0.5 spring Chinook caught per boat. Bank anglers fishing in the gorge averaged 0.19 spring Chinook, while anglers fishing the Portland to Westport area averaged 0.02 spring Chinook caught per angler. On Saturday's (5/30) flight, 265 salmonid boats and 79 Oregon bank anglers were counted from the Columbia River Estuary to Bonneville Dam.

Gorge Bank:

Weekly checking showed three adipose fin-clipped adult spring Chinook kept for 16 bank anglers; and 390 shad kept, plus five shad released for 86 bank anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed eight adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook and one adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook kept, plus one unclipped adult Chinook released for 18 boats (56 anglers); and 10 shad kept for seven boats (23 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed four adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus two unclipped adult Chinook released for 35 boats (77 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank

Weekend checking showed one unclipped adult Chinook released for 41 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed 11 adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook, one adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook, and six adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus three unclipped adult Chinook released for 38 boats (96 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Clatsop Spit to Wauna Powerlines):

Weekend checking showed no catch for two bank anglers.

Estuary Boats (Tongue Point to Wauna Powerlines):

Weekend checking showed two unclipped adult Chinook released for four boats (seven anglers).

Bonneville Pool (Columbia River between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam):

No report.

The Dalles Pool (Columbia River between The Dalles Dam and John Day Dam):

No report.

John Day Pool (Columbia River between John Day Dam and McNary Dam):

Weekly checking showed no catch for four bank anglers; and seven adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus two unclipped adult Chinook released for 24 boats (51 anglers).
