Anglers continue to catch spring Chinook in the Willamette River.

On the Columbia, Angling for summer steelhead and spring Chinook jacks is open through Saturday from Tongue Point upstream to the I-5 Bridge.

Effective Sunday, angling for summer steelhead will be open from the Astoria-Megler Bridge upstream to the Washington-Oregon border. The retention of Chinook and sockeye is prohibited.

Angling for shad is open from Buoy 10 at the mouth of the Columbia upstream to the Washington-Oregon border.

White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to McNary Dam but remains an option for catch-and-release fishing. Anglers are reminded that spawning sanctuaries are currently in effect.

Panfish and bass are biting well in local lakes

Trout fishing continues to be good in lowland lakes, high country lakes, and streams. Morning and evening are the best times to fish.

Walleye angling is good in the John Day Pool.

Columbia River Mainstem

• Buoy 10 upstream to Chief Joseph Dam -- Effective June 1 until further notice, barbless hooks are now voluntary for salmon and steelhead directed fisheries.

• Vancouver -- 38 bank anglers released one chinook, one steelhead, and one sockeye. Five boat anglers had no catch.

• Woodland -- 72 bank anglers kept two steelhead, and released one Chinook, one steelhead and one sockeye.

• Kalama -- 33 bank anglers and four boat anglers had no catch.

• Longview -- 173 bank anglers released one chinook and one steelhead, and kept three steelhead. 19 boat anglers kept 10 steelhead.

• Cathlamet -- 39 bank anglers kept one chinook jack and three steelhead.

• Elochoman River -- Six bank anglers kept three steelhead.

• Cowlitz River -- I-5 Bridge downstream: 15 bank rods kept two steelhead. Above the I-5 Bridge: Eight bank rods released one steelhead. 18 boats/46 rods kept 17 steelhead.

• Kalama River -- 44 bank anglers kept two Chinook, two steelhead and released two steelhead. One boat/two rods had no catch.

• Lewis River -- Two bank anglers had no catch. Three boats/four rods kept one steelhead.

• Klickitat below Fisher Hill Bridge -- Three bank anglers kept one Chinook jack.

• Klickitat above No. 5 Fishway -- Eight bank anglers had no catch. One boat/two rods released two steelhead.
