COLUMBIA ZONE FISHING

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

Summer Chinook fishing is fair below Bonneville Dam.

Shad continue to cross Bonneville Dam in large numbers; however, catch rates appear to be winding down.

Summer steelhead abundance is increasing in the lower Columbia.

Sturgeon retention is open from The Dalles Dam upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.

Catch and release angling for sturgeon is good in the estuary and fair to good from Marker 82 downstream to Longview.

Walleye angling is fair to good in the The Dalles and John Day pools.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

Salmonid catch rates continue to be fair in the lower Columbia. Boat anglers in the Portland to Longview area had the best success where anglers averaged 0.64 Chinook, 0.19 steelhead and 0.08 sockeye caught per boat. In the estuary, boat anglers averaged 0.25 Chinook and 0.31 steelhead caught per boat, while anglers fishing in Troutdale averaged 0.25 Chinook caught per boat. In the gorge, boat anglers averaged 0.15 Chinook caught per boat. Bank anglers had the best success in the estuary where anglers averaged 0.43 steelhead caught per angler. In the Portland to Westport area, bank anglers averaged 0.04 Chinook, 0.01 sockeye and 0.01 steelhead caught per angler. On Saturday's (6/22) flight, 595 salmonid boats, six shad boats, 244 Oregon salmonid bank anglers and 41 Oregon shad bank anglers were counted.

Gorge Bank:

Weekend checking showed no catch for 30 salmonid anglers; and 35 shad kept for 35 anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed one adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus one unclipped adult Chinook released for 13 boats (40 anglers); and five shad kept for one boat (two anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed 11 adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook and two adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook kept, plus six unclipped adult Chinook and one unclipped jack Chinook released for 68 boats (142 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank:

Weekend checking showed two adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook, one adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook, two adipose fin-clipped steelhead and five sockeye kept, plus four unclipped adult Chinook released for 140 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed 22 adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook, four adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook, 12 adipose fin-clipped steelhead and five sockeye kept, plus 19 unclipped adult Chinook and one unclipped jack Chinook released for 64 boats (150 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed three adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept for seven bank anglers.

Estuary Boats (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed three adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook and four adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus one unclipped adult Chinook and one unclipped steelhead released for 16 boats (25 anglers).

Bonneville Pool:

Weekly checking showed one sockeye kept for 11 anglers; and four shad kept for five anglers. And one adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept for one boat (two anglers).

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed no catch for 34 bank anglers.

John Day Pool:

Weekly checking showed one adipose fin-clipped adult Chinook kept, plus one unclipped adult Chinook released for 27 bank anglers; and no catch for seven boats (10 anglers).
