Salmon, Steelhead and Shad

Salmonid angling was fair to excellent on the lower Columbia this past weekend. In the gorge, boat anglers averaged 2.05 summer Chinook and 0.05 sockeye caught per boat, while anglers fishing in Troutdale averaged 0.58 summer Chinook and 0.03 steelhead caught per boat. In the Portland to Westport area, boat anglers averaged 0.38 summer Chinook and 0.22 steelhead caught per boat, while anglers fishing in the estuary averaged 7.5 summer Chinook caught per boat. Bank anglers fishing in the gorge this past week averaged 0.28 summer Chinook caught per angler, while anglers fishing the Portland to Westport area averaged 0.05 summer Chinook, 0.03 steelhead and 0.01 sockeye caught per angler. On Saturday's (6/27) flight, 236 salmonid boats and 78 Oregon bank anglers were counted from the Columbia River Estuary to Bonneville Dam.

Gorge Bank:

Weekly checking showed 16 adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook and one adipose fin-clipped jack summer Chinook kept, plus three unclipped adult summer Chinook released for 67 salmonid anglers; and 471 shad kept for 97 shad anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed 13 adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook, one adipose fin-clipped jack summer Chinook and one sockeye kept, plus 28 unclipped adult summer Chinook and three unclipped jack Chinook released for 20 boats (65 anglers); and eight shad kept for three boats (10 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed nine adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook kept, plus 13 unclipped adult summer Chinook and one unclipped steelhead released for 38 boats (85 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank

Weekly checking showed four adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook, one adipose fin-clipped steelhead and one sockeye kept, plus one unclipped steelhead released for 73 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed four adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook, one adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook and seven adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus eight unclipped adult summer Chinook released for 32 boats (79 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Clatsop Spit to Wauna Powerlines):

No report.

Estuary Boats (Astoria-Megler Bridge to Wauna Powerlines):

Weekly checking showed 10 adipose fin-clipped adult summer Chinook kept, plus five unclipped adult summer Chinook released for two boats (nine anglers).

Bonneville Pool (Columbia River between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam):

Weekly checking showed no catch for 23 bank anglers; and one unclipped summer Chinook released for four boats (five anglers).

The Dalles Pool (Columbia River between The Dalles Dam and John Day Dam):

No report.

John Day Pool (Columbia River between John Day Dam and McNary Dam):

No report.
