COLUMBIA FISHING

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

Fishing is open for adipose fin-clipped jack Chinook, adipose fin-clipped steelhead and sockeye from the Astoria-Megler Bridge upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.

Chinook retention is allowed from Bonneville Dam upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.

Sturgeon retention is open from The Dalles Dam upstream to the John Day Dam and from McNary Dam upstream to the Oregon/Washington border.

Catch and release angling for sturgeon is open from Marker 82 in the gorge downstream to Buoy 10 and in Bonneville and John Day pools.

Walleye angling is good in the The Dalles pool.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

Steelhead anglers had fair to excellent success below Bonneville Dam this past weekend. Boat anglers had the highest catch rates in the estuary where anglers averaged 1.9 steelhead, 0.11 sockeye and 0.06 Chinook caught per boat. In the gorge, boat anglers averaged 0.75 steelhead and 1.0 Chinook caught per boat, while anglers fishing the Portland to Westport area averaged 0.61 steelhead caught per boat. In Troutdale, boat anglers averaged 0.14 steelhead caught per boat. Bank anglers had the best success in the estuary where anglers averaged 0.40 steelhead caught per angler. In the gorge, bank anglers averaged 0.04 steelhead and 0.04 sockeye caught per angler, while anglers fishing the Portland to Westport area averaged 0.02 steelhead and 0.02 Chinook caught per angler. On Saturday's (7/13) flight, 216 salmonid boats, seven walleye boats and 94 Oregon salmonid bank anglers were counted.

Gorge Bank:

Weekend checking showed one adipose fin-clipped steelhead and one sockeye kept for 23 salmonid anglers; and no catch for four shad anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed three unclipped steelhead and four adult Chinook released for four boats (11 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed one steelhead caught for seven boats (15 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank:

Weekend checking showed one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus one adult Chinook released for 66 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed 25 adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus 22 unclipped steelhead released for 77 boats (229 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed 13 adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus six unclipped steelhead released for 48 bank anglers.

Estuary Boats (Tongue Point to Westport):

Weekend checking showed 18 adipose fin-clipped steelhead and two sockeye kept, plus 16 unclipped steelhead and one adult Chinook released for 18 boats (49 anglers).

Bonneville Pool:

Weekly checking showed one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus one unclipped steelhead released for four bank anglers.

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed one unclipped steelhead released for 23 bank anglers; and no catch for one boat (two anglers).

John Day Pool:

No report.
