Fishermen display their catch of Chinook Salmon. Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River -- Boat and bank anglers averaged about a Chinook per every 3 rods last week. Best catches (and heaviest effort) is at the barrier dam though fish continue to be caught throughout the river. Some winter run and a few summer steelhead are also appearing in the catch, primarily around the trout hatchery.

Kalama River -- Bank anglers are catching some spring Chinook.

Lewis River -- Little to no angling effort.

Wind River -- Boat anglers averaged about a spring Chinook per every 3 rods. Fishing in the gorge is hit-or-miss with mostly miss.

Drano Lake -- Boat anglers averaged about 1/2 fish per rod. Bank anglers averaged a fish per every 7 rods.

Klickitat River -- Bank anglers are catching some spring Chinook and a few summer run steelhead.

Based on Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag detections at Bonneville Dam, a total of 7,309 Wind River, 6,851 Drano, and 447 Klickitat hatchery adult spring Chinook have crossed the dam to date.

Bonneville Pool -- Bank anglers just outside Drano Lake averaged a little better than a fish per every 4 rods. Effort is increasing with up to a few dozen anglers per day.

The Dalles Pool -- Bank and boat anglers are catching some spring Chinook.

John Day Pool -- Bank anglers kept/released an adult Chinook per every 3 rods while boat anglers averaged one per every 4.5 rods. About two-thirds of the fish were kept.

From Bonneville Dam to McNary Dam, an estimated 1,459 angler trips have produced 92 adult spring Chinook kept and 40 released through

April 19. Prior to the run size update, 1,376 fish (including mortalities) have been allocated to the sport fishery from Bonneville Dam to the WA/OR state line.
