by Staff
HydroWorld, February 26, 2014

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms capable of repairing Fishpump 2 at 980-MW McNary Dam on the Columbia River. Responses are due March 6.

The Corps' Walla Walla District took bids in February for replacement, rehabilitation and modernization of the station service electrical power system at McNary Dam, in Umatilla County, Ore. The district recently awarded contracts to Transco Industries Inc. to supply spare draft tube stoplogs and to B&H International to supply 380 anodes for main unit intake gates at McNary.

In a sources sought notice, the Corps now seeks information on small businesses that could repair the fish pump, which is rated at 2,853 horsepower and is 14 feet in diameter at the centerline of its variable pitched blades. It plans to use responses to determine whether to set aside a solicitation for small businesses.

The work would include fabrication and replacement of three bearing housings, bearings and shaft journals below the motor. Bearing materials are both babbitt and composite. Bearing housings are 24 to 32 inches in diameter and 18 inches tall. The pump shaft nominal diameter is 15 inches with a length of 30 to 40 feet.

The work is to be performed between August and December 2014 at an estimated cost of $250,000 to $500,000.

A sources sought notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W912EF14RSS25 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Responses are due by 4 p.m., Pacific time, March 6, by e-mail to the address below. For information, contact Caroline Mueller, Contract Specialist, U.S.
