Fishing Report

Ocean:

Columbia River sturgeon: Closed for sturgeon retention downstream of The Dalles dam, except that retention of legal-sized sturgeon will be allowed on June 13-14 and June 20-21 between Bonneville and The Dalles dams. Catch-and-release fishing allowed.

Columbia River salmonids: Last week anglers made 8,881 trips and caught 1,181 adult chinook (604 kept and 577 released) and 339 summer steelhead (325 kept and 14 released).

Columbia River pikeminnow: Last week at Cathlamet, 71 anglers turned in 302 pikeminnow. At Willow Grove, 94 anglers with 137 fish. At Rainier, 42 anglers with 289 fish. At Kalama, 56 anglers turned in 469 sleek pikeminnow.

Columbia River shad: For over the past week, tens of thousands of shad have been counted daily at Bonneville Dam. Bank anglers are doing well just below Bonneville Dam at the Steamboat Landing Dock in Washougal. Boat anglers are catching some fish from Kalama upstream.

Cowlitz River: 36 bank anglers kept 4 chinook and released 4. 10 boat anglers kept 8 chinook. For current river flow information, call (888) 502-8690.

Kalama River: Effort remains light. 11 bank anglers had no fish. Kalama Falls Hatchery spring chinook return as of May 25 is 188 adults including 9 wild origin and 52 Lewis stock. The hatchery escapement goal is about 400 adults.

Lewis River: No report on angling success. Spring chinook returns as of May 25 is 591 adults including 12 wild origin. River flow ranged between about 3,000 and 4,800 cfs the past week. The hatchery escapement goal is about 1,300 adults.

Kress Lake: Stocked with 2,500 rainbows on May 16.
