Reports of sport angler checks from the past week and related information provided by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Columbia River sturgeon: From Buoy 10 to the Wauna powerlines, retention of white sturgeon permitted 7 days a week through June 26; prohibited June 27-30; permitted July 1-4 and prohibited July 5-Dec. 31. From the Wauna powerlines to Bonneville Dam, retention allowed Thursdays through Saturdays through July 31, prohibited Aug. 1-Oct. 7; and permitted Oct. 8-Dec. 31. Catch-and-release fishing allowed on days when retention is prohibited. All sturgeon fishing closed through Aug. 31 in the sanctuary downriver from Bonneville Dam.

Portland to Longview boats: Weekend checking showed five legal white sturgeon kept, plus 86 sublegal sturgeon released for 62 boats (154 anglers).

Columbia River salmonids: Below Bonneville Dam, reopened for all salmonids on May 15. On opening day, 305 salmonid anglers (including 56 boats) had 27 adult and 65 jack spring chinook and 4 steelhead. Despite the crummy weather, just over 400 boats and 466 bank anglers were counted during Sunday's flight. The river flow is extremely high at about 450,000 cubic feet per second.

Columbia River shad: River opened to fishing for shad on May 16. Only a few dozen fish have crossed Bonneville Dam to date. Columbia River pikeminnow: Last week at Cathlamet, 38 anglers turned in 50 fish. At Willow Grove, 54 anglers with 78 fish. At Rainier, 34 anglers with 79 fish. And at Kalama, 35 anglers turned in 231 handsome pikeminnow.

Cowlitz River: 155 bank anglers had 18 adult chinook and 17 jacks, and 12 boat anglers had 1 chinook adult. For current river flow information, call (888) 502-8690.

Kalama River: 38 bank anglers had 3 chinook adults and 2 steelhead, and 2 boat anglers had no fish.

Lewis River: On the mainstem, 21 bank anglers and 1 boat anglers had no fish. On the North Fork, 24 bank anglers had 1 chinook and released 1 jack and 1 steelhead.

Drano Lake: 67 bank anglers had 24 adult chinook and 331 boat anglers had 141 adult chinook and 10 jacks.

Battleground Lake: Planted with 4,550 catchable size rainbows May 10. No report on angling success.
