COLUMBIA FISHING

Weekend Fishing Opportunities:

Fall chinook is open from the Tongue Point/Rocky Point line upstream to the Oregon/Washington Border above McNary Dam. Fall chinook fishing is fair to excellent from Tongue Point to Bonneville Dam.

Buoy 10 to Tongue Point is open for adipose fin-clipped coho and adipose fin-clipped steelhead.

Sturgeon retention is open from The Dalles Dam upstream to the John Day Dam.

Walleye angling is excellent in Troutdale.

Salmon, Steelhead and Shad:

On the lower Columbia this past weekend there were 1,834 salmonid boats and 74 Oregon bank anglers counted from Bonneville Dam downstream to Tongue Point on Sunday's (9/1) flight; and 575 Oregon boats at Buoy 10. Anglers had the best success above Tongue Point where anglers averaged 3.40 chinook, 0.17 coho and 0.01 steelhead caught per boat. At Buoy 10 anglers averaged 1.91 chinook, 0.91 coho and 0.01 steelhead caught per boat. In the Portland to Longview area, boat anglers averaged 0.35 chinook caught per boat, while anglers fishing in the gorge averaged 0.17 chinook caught per boat. In Troutdale, boat anglers averaged 0.11 chinook and 0.02 steelhead caught per boat. Bank anglers fishing in the gorge averaged 0.04 chinook and 0.03 steelhead caught per angler.

Gorge Bank:

Weekend checking showed three adult fall chinook, two jack chinook and two adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept for 70 bank anglers.

Gorge Boats:

Weekend checking showed two adult fall chinook and two jack chinook kept for 12 boats (36 anglers).

Troutdale Boats:

Weekend checking showed seven adult fall chinook and two jack chinook kept, plus one unclipped steelhead released for 63 boats (144 anglers).

Portland to Westport Bank:

Weekend checking showed no catch for 14 bank anglers.

Portland to Westport Boats:

Weekend checking showed 100 adult fall chinook, three jack chinook and one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus three adult chinook and one jack chinook released for 291 boats (730 anglers).

Estuary above Tongue Point boats:

Weekend checking showed 448 adult fall chinook, 53 jack chinook, 17 adipose fin-clipped adult coho, five adipose fin-clipped coho jacks, and two adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, plus 106 adult fall chinook and 11 unclipped coho released for 163 boats (590 anglers).

Estuary Bank (Jones Beach to Clatsop Spit):

Weekly checking showed two chinook kept, plus one unclipped coho released for 64 bank anglers.

Estuary Boats (Tongue Point to Buoy 10):

Weekend checking showed 555 adult fall chinook and 220 adipose fin-clipped coho kept, plus 545 fall chinook, 302 unclipped coho and five unclipped steelhead released for 575 boats (1,693 anglers).

The Dalles Pool:

Weekly checking showed one chinook and one steelhead released for 23 bank anglers; and 80 chinook and one adipose fin-clipped coho kept, plus five chinook and six unclipped steelhead released for 64 boats (161 anglers).
