U.S. Seeks Firms to Replace Valve in Fish Pump
System at 810-MW Lower Granite Dam

by Staff
HydroWorld, March 6, 2014

Lower Granite Dam in a remote corner of SE Washington State is in need of a replacement valve for their fish pump system. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms able to replace a currently inaccessible 10-inch valve in the fish pump system of 810-MW Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River in Washington. Responses are due March 13.

The Corps' Walla Walla District took information in December on firms able to modify a juvenile fish collection channel and in October on firms able to upgrade the juvenile fish passage facility at Lower Granite. The Corps solicited information in February on firms able to perform a lamprey migration and passage study at Lower Granite and three other hydroelectric projects on the lower Snake River.

The Corps now seeks information from firms with the capability to replace the Lower Granite AUD-5 valve, a 10-inch non-rising stem gate valve on the discharge of the unwatering header for fish pumps located inside the powerhouse unwatering sump. Work includes core drilling and installing a new 30-inch access hatch in the ceiling of the unwatering sump in line with the valve, which is stuck partially open. The existing manhole does not allow for direct access to the valve. The government is to supply the new valve.

The work is valued at $100,000 to $250,000.

A sources sought notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF14RSS30 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Responses are due via e-mail to the address below by 2 p.m. March 13. For information, contact Caroline Mueller, Contract Specialist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, 201 N. 3rd Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7225; E-mail: caroline.b.mueller@usace.army.mil.
