CASCADE LOCKS --The fall chinook run is in full swing as thousands of fish pass Bonneville Dam daily on their way to tributaries and hatcheries upstream. The fish are most visible at counting windows on the Washington side and at the Bonneville fish hatchery. The fishers are catching salmon at Cascade Locks.

In the last week, 110,000 fall chinook passed Bonneville Dam, or about 15,000 per day. The fish are a strong indication that measures to increase survival of juvenile fish have boosted the number of adults taking advantage of good ocean conditions. This is twice the 10 year average. Fall chinook counts on the Snake River are up more than 200 percent from the average between 2000 and 2003.
