The Pacific Northwest Waterways Association reports a change in the way
dams are funded this year. In years past,
Columbia River Fish Mitigation was a
stand-alone project in the construction
portion of the president's budget. This
year it has been broken up and parts of
it have been distributed over the eight
navigation projects on the Columbia
Snake River System. This makes the
numbers associated with these projects
look quite large. For example, in FY
2006 the Dalles Dam received a final
appropriation of $3.8-million. For FY
Overall, funding levels for the Columbia Snake River System, Oregon
coast, and Puget Sound are not as poor
as they have been in years past, though
deficiencies do remain.
