BPA says Power Grid
'Performing Well' During Storm

Portland Business Journal, December 18, 2008

The Bonneville Power Administration said the system is keeping up with "record" demand for electricity during the freezing snow storm.

The Portland-based utility said that Monday set a record demand for electricity at 63,252 megawatts, which beat a record that was set in the winter of 2007.

BPA officials said they took precautionary measures in advance of the cold weather, including making advance purchases of power and adjusting maintenance projects at the Libby, Grand Coulee and Willamette dams and reservoirs.

"So far the system has been holding up well with all the demands being placed upon it," said Paul Norman, senior vice president for power services at BPA, in a statement.

BPA added that no unusual weather-related impacts have occurred on the power grid system at this time.
