A Bill to Increase Budget Funding
at Hanford will go to the Senate

Hanford city site on Columbia River (by Emmet Gowin: Changing the Earth) Washington - The 2008 omnibus appropriations bill is expected to go to the Senate Tuesday December 18th. The budget includes nearly 2 billion dollars to go towards Hanford cleanup.

Almost $700 million will go to the Waste Treatment Plant and close to $300 million to Tank Farm Activities. The HAMMER Training and Education Center will get over $7 million. And the B Reactor will receive over $900 thousand, a much needed dollar amount to help preserve the B Reactor.

Also going before the Senate, a $65 million dollar budget increase at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Funding would go towards the Hanford 300 Area cleanup.

Other budget increases dealing with transportation projects will also go to the Senate today.

Ben Franklin Transit would get $700 thousand. The Port of Pasco would receive $900 thousand to improve rail lines, and $700 thousand dollars for road and trail infrastructure at the Hanford Reach Center.
