by Staff
HydroWorld, September 8, 2015

(Darin Oswald) Fish ladders at the the Lower Granite Dam had water that was too warm for salmon, but turbine manipulation saved the day. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers further extended the deadline for bids to replace HVAC equipment at the 810-MW Lower Granite Dam hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington. Bids now are due Sept. 15.

The Corps' Walla Walla District previously called for bids by Sept. 9 and Sept. 3.

The district called for bids in June to build fishway temperature improvements and to replace turbine hub linkage components at Lower Granite. It took information in July on small businesses able to perform fish counting services at Lower Granite and seven other federal hydroelectric projects on the Columbia and Snake rivers.

The Walla Walla District now seeks bids to replace heating-ventilation-air conditioning equipment at Lower Granite that is either malfunctioning or does not meet current operational requirements. Work includes replacing the central powerhouse heating and cooling system, five constant volume HVAC systems, an open direct digital control system and electrical upgrades.

The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF15B0015 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids now are due Sept. 15. For information, contact Jani Long, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, 201 N. Third Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7209; E-mail: jani.c.long@usace.army.mil.
