Saturday's event included a morning ceremony and afternoon open house. It honored the U.S. army corps of engineers' work to build the dam.

Vice president Linden B. Johnson dedicated the dam in May of 1962.

A local ROTC student, Mike Dunham, got to meet him back then and came back for Saturday's ceremony.

"I always appreciate the opportunity to have met him. I feel luck to have done so. I feel lucky to relive it and express those same sentiments today," says Dunham.

Ice Harbor Dam generate hydropower and in 2011 it generated 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity for the area.
