John Day Lock Under Repair

by Staff
Wheat Life, May 2008

A barge tow accident involving an empty barge closed the John Day lock on February 28 for three days, during which time the Corps of Engineers installed a floating bulkhead to replace the lock gate. Inspection of the gate reveals that repairs can be made and the gate made operational by December 2008. The floating bulkhead will be used as the temporary gate until that time so that commercial traffic is uninterrupted.
