Locks to Close on Columbia,
Snake Rivers During March

by Staff
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, March 1, 2018

The season for on-request lockage is fast approaching on the lower Snake and Columbia rivers. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo) Annual inspections, maintenance and repairs will close all navigation locks on the Columbia and Lower Snake rivers to recreational and commercial traffic starting Saturday.

In addition, work activities may require the temporary suspension of public vehicle crossings at Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite dams on the Lower Snake River.

The locks at Lower Monumental and Ice Harbor dams and at McNary and Bonneville dams will reopen March 19.

The locks at Lower Granite and Little Goose dams and at John Day and The Dalles dams on the Columbia River will return to service on March 26. More time on these is needed to perform non-routine work, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials.
