Fisheries Managers Lower
Spring Chinook Prediction

by Associated Press
Fox 12, May 28, 2010

LEWISTON, Idaho - Fisheries officials have reduced their prediction of the number of spring chinook returning above Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River to 314,000.

That's a significant drop from the preseason forecast of 470,000.

The latest prediction on Wednesday by state, federal and tribal fisheries officials took into account dropping fish counts at Bonneville Dam.

Sam Sharr of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game tells the Lewiston Tribune there is no talk of ending any open salmon fishing seasons early in Idaho.

But he says the number of chinook bound for the South Fork of the Salmon and Pahsimeroi rivers has been disappointing.
