Mercier Named Bonneville Power's Executive
Manager of Fish and Wildlife Division

Brian Mercier, Director of Fish and Wildlife at the Bonneville Power Administration's Fish and Wildlife Division Brian Mercier was appointed Executive Manager of the Bonneville Power Administration's Fish and Wildlife Division May14. In that position, commonly referred to as the Director of Fish and Wildlife, Mercier reports directly to Lorri Bodi, Senior Vice President of Environment, Fish and Wildlife.

He previously had been manager of business operations, but had been filling the Fish and Wildlife director's position on an interim basis since Bill Maslen retired last year. Bodi announced Mercier's appointment at the Northwest Power and Planning Council's Fish and Wildlife Committee meeting in Boise Tuesday.

Mercier is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, according to his biography. He spent most of his life in western Oregon, the son of a Native-American father and Irish immigrant mother, and currently lives in southwest Portland with his wife Christine, 2 children (Keekoa "Kee" and Kaalogi "Kali"), and dog Juno. He is an avid soccer player and fan, having spent 7 years in Europe playing semi-professional soccer in Germany and Spain.

He has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, a graduate certificate in Economics from the University of Freiburg in Germany, and a graduate degree in Human Rights and International Law from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain. He has worked nearly 15 years in public service, including a stint on the staff of former U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon and at the US Forest Service in Washington, DC.

Before returning to Oregon to work for BPA in 2009, he was the principal program manager of the Native Initiatives program at the Department of Treasury's Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund, which promotes economic revitalization in distressed communities throughout the U.S. by providing financial assistance and information to those institutions.
