In a refreshing acknowledgement of something even the most amateur fish biologists have figured out, Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles was quoted last week as saying the dams on the lower Snake River are "a killing field" for migrating salmon, a far cry from the gibberish about installing "fish-friendly turbines" we hear in these quarters.
