Mixed bag of catch happening in southwest Washington region with Cowlitz River steelhead being best bet

Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River - 20 boat anglers kept 9 steelhead while 14 bank anglers kept 2 steelhead and released 2 steelhead and 1 unmarked coho.

Last week Tacoma Power recovered 801 coho adults, eleven jacks and 354 winter-run steelhead during three days of operation at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

During the past week Tacoma Power employees released 161 coho adults, two jacks and two winter-run steelhead at the Lake Scanewa Day Use Site above Cowlitz Falls Dam and 339 coho adults, two jacks and ten steelhead adults into the Cispus River above Yellow Jacket Creek. Also during the week 149 coho adults and nine winter-run steelhead were released into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 8,300 cubic feet per second on Monday, January 9. Water visibility is six feet.

Lower Columbia mainstem from Bonneville Dam downstream - Effort and catches are light.

Bonneville and John Day pools - No effort was found for salmon.

The Dalles Pool - Bank and boat anglers are catching some steelhead.
