Lower Monumental Monolith Repair Temporarily Closes Dam to Vehicle Crossings by Staff Daily Fly, April 17, 2017

KAHLOTUS, WA - Vehicle crossings at Lower Monumental Lock and Dam are temporarily closed until May 1st to accommodate maintenance activities to occur on top of the dam. The US Army Corps of Engineers' Walla Walla District says the closure is necessary for public safety while maintenance staff repairs two monolith joint seals.

"The seals prevent river water on the upstream side of the dam from entering the concrete structure. The existing water stop seals have been in service since the dam's construction during the 1960s and are in need of replacement. Workers will erect a concrete drilling platform on the dam's roadway deck to facilitate repairs," the USACE says.

Travelers can call 1-888-DAM-INFO (1-888-326-4636) for the most current dam-crossing information at all three of Walla Walla District's dams that allow public traffic to cross the Snake River: Lower Monumental; Little Goose, near Starbuck; and Lower Granite, near Pomeroy.
