The bill would protect the Columbia and Snake River dams.

The bill would require federal approval for any action on four lower Snake River dams, essentially locking them into place until 2022.

Conservation groups are concerned it would harm Salmon and Steelhead populations in the Northwest, which already have seen smaller runs because of the dams.

Supporters say it's needed to protect hydropower in the Northwest.
