Anglers Net More Chinook
in 2007 Than Year Before

BOISE -- Idaho anglers caught and kept more Chinook salmon this year compared to 2006.

Idaho Fish and Game says anglers kept 2,412 adult and jack Chinook this season, compared to 2,167 last year.

Population counts also show an increase from the previous year.

The agency says 28,619 adults and more than 11,600 jacks were tallied at the Lower Granite Dam in southeastern Washington through July 15. That's up significantly in both categories from 2006.

And fish biologists say the high jack count this year bodes well for next year's salmon season.

Officials also say only about 78 percent of the expected number of wild salmon, listed under the Endangered Species Act, crossed the Lower Granite dam this year.
