Newhouse Leads Legislative Outing
to Snake River Dams

Energy Secretary Rick Perry, left, toured McNary Dam with Rep. Greg Walden R-Ore. and Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., right, in August 2018 at McNary Dam that produces as more electricty than the four Lower Snake River dams combined. BURBANK -- Fourth District U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse will bring a team of fellow Republican lawmakers to the Snake River dams system next week.

Newhouse plans to hold a site visit and field hearing on Monday at Ice Harbor Dam near Burbank, alongside Spokane U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and three other elected House members.

Newhouse and other Washington Republicans are pushing back against calls to remove the four dams to ease salmon flow to and from the Pacific. They say the dams -- Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite -- are invaluable for river commerce, agriculture, and energy production in the southeastern part of the state and the wider Northwest.

The outing starts with a 10 a.m. tour for congressmembers, followed by a press conference and a 1 p.m. field hearing at Richland High School. The other legislators joining the excursion are U.S. Reps. Cliff Bentz (R-Oregon), John Duarte (R-California) and Mike Collins (R-Georgia).
