Idaho Receives New Salmon Money by Patricia R. McCoy Capital Press, April 9, 2004

Idaho will receive a part of the $3.5 million set aside this year by the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help restore salmon and steelhead habitat, according to a NRCS news release.

The money will be available to private landowners along the Clearwater, Lemhi and Salmon rivers and their tributaries. It will be administered by the NRCS through the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, WHIP, the release said.

Other portions of the money will go to California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Maine.

WHIP provides 75 percent cost share for conservation practices that enhance salmon and steelhead habitat. Those practices can include riparian restoration, water conservation or instream-habitat improvements.
