Letter: Salmon Not SAFE by Kim Tarabochia-Minkoff The Daily Astorian, April 10, 2009

As you may know, a group by the name of, "SAFE for Salmon" is lobbying to take the gillnetters off the Columbia River for good. In short, they want the entire Columbia River for themselves, and will not stop until they reach their glutinous goal.

If this infuriates you, as much as it does me, if any of you were brought up in a gillnet fishing family, or have gillnets fishermen friends, or are proud, as I am, of the rich gillnet fishing heritage that Astoria was partly founded on, I am asking you to please contact your state senator or state representative, and tell them that you are not in favor of the "SAFE for Salmon" Senate Bill 554, House Bill 2734.

Please, let's stop this witch hunt on the gillnetters once and for all.
