Incident Triggered Inspection

by Staff
The News Tribune, November 12, 2013

Energy Northwest The Nuclear Regulatory Commission conducted a special inspection at the nuclear power plant near Richland after an incident Sept. 12 related to security, according to limited information made public by the NRC.

Energy Northwest was sent a letter Nov. 7 saying that no findings were identified during the inspection, which began Oct. 1 and was completed Oct. 8.

However, to protect security at the Columbia Generating Station, information about the incident that prompted the inspection and what the inspection looked at are not being released to the public.

"The NRC holds nuclear power plants to the highest security standards of any American industry, and we exceed those standards," said Energy Northwest spokeswoman Angela Walz, in a statement. "Columbia Generating Station is equipped with robust security measures to protect the facility and ensure public health and safety from both physical and computer threats."
